The Girlfriend Experience (TGE) is an American drama television series created by Lodge Kerrigan and Amy Seimetz. The show is based on the 2009 film of the same name, which was directed by Steven Soderbergh. The second season of TGE premiered on November 5, 2017, on Starz.
The second season of TGE focuses on two parallel storylines. The first storyline revolves around Erica Myles (Anna Friel), a powerful political consultant who hires a young escort named Anna (Louisa Krause) for companionship and to gain insider access to the candidates she is working for. The second storyline follows Bria Jones (Carmen Ejogo), a former escort who enters the Witness Protection Program after testifying against her ex-boyfriend, a violent drug dealer.
The second season received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising the performances of the cast while others felt that the storylines were too convoluted and lacked the focus of the first season. Despite the mixed reception, TGE was renewed for a third season, which premiered on May 2, 2021.
